چکیده
t p S b t Clinical Scenario A 44-year-old woman with abdominal pain of 4 onths’ duration is referred to your gastroenterology clinic rom her primary care physician for evaluation of positive erologic markers for IBD. The patient denies diarrhea, bright ed blood per rectum, melena, fevers, and weight loss. She has ormal liver function test results, complete blood count, erythocyte sedimentation rate, and C-reactive protein. There is no amily history of IBD. She has undergone an upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, and a small bowel series, all of which have been ormal. How do you proceed with evaluation and management of his patient? How should the information provided by the ositive serologic markers be used? What is the role of serologic arkers in the diagnosis of IBD?

OBJECTIVES. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the use of serologic testing as a screening test for inflammatory bowel disease compared with erythrocyte sedimentation rate and hemoglobin in a referred patient population with suspected inflammatory bowel disease. متن کاملUtility of serological markers in inflammatory bowel diseases: gadget or magic?
The panel of serologic markers for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) is rapidly expanding. Although anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCA) and atypical perinuclear antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (P-ANCA) remain the most widely investigated, an increasing amount of experimental data is available on newly discovered antibodies directed against various microbial antigens. The role ...
متن کاملDiagnostic accuracy of fecal calprotectin in assessing the severity of inflammatory bowel disease: From laboratory to clinic
Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) involves chronic inflammation of the digestive tract. In the past decades, fecal calprotectin has been proposed as a useful biomarker for the differential diagnosis between IBD patients and healthy controls. We designed this study to evaluate the diagnostic ability of fecal calprotectin (FC) and conventional inflammatory markers in IBD patients. M...

INTRODUCTION Th e appropriate management of patients with infl ammatory bowel disease (IBD) in 2016 incorporates the integration of biomarkers (fecal and serologic), radiology fi ndings, and endoscopic studies, together with clinical assessment. Although clinical assessment remains a critical part of patient care, these investigations can be used to identify patients with IBD, determine prognos...
متن کاملCurrent and future role of serogenomics in ulcerative colitis.
Ulcerative colitis (UC), a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, occurs in genetically susceptible individuals who mount inappropriate immune responses to endoluminal antigens. Serologic and genetic markers have shown great potential for clinical application in Crohn's disease (CD), particularly for prognostication. However, their use is not as well established in UC. The aim of this paper is to ...
